Imeem Opens Up Media Platform to Developers

My vote for 2008's new buzz phrase? Open API. It seems like hardly an hour goes by these days that I'm not posting a news item about another recently opened developer platform. While this particular story doesn't revolve around Google, Microsoft, or Yahoo!, the name Imeem has become increasingly more powerful in the past year or so--especially in the last few months, which have seen the music-centric site knock out Bebo for the title of the U.S.'s third most popular social network site, behind MySpace and Facebook.

Early this morning Imeem unveiled a new media platform aimed at developers looking to create their own apps for the social networking site. We spoke with Imeem about the new initiative yesterday, and the company was quick to point out what sets this move apart from the slew of other recent developer platforms we've seen: The site is opening up the exact tools that Immem's own developers use to create tools for the app.
