Q: My wife needs to have Hebrew installed on her Windows XP SP2 computer for some research she's doing. The tech support person for the software (from Israel) said the following: "Go to Control Panel and add in the Hebrew via the Regional and Language Options. Make sure that you add in right to left in the Language tab and make sure the Hebrew language is added in the Advanced Section." Trouble is when I do that, there's no listing of Hebrew as a language choice. Can you walk me through installing the Hebrew? - Henry S. Winokur.
A: I went through those steps and sure enough Hebrew is not in the list. It goes straight from Greek to Hungarian. It turns out that both of us missed something in the tech person's advice - the phrase "Make sure that you add in right to left in the Language tab". Here are the exact steps to install the Hebrew language.
Launch Regional and Language Options from Control Panel.
Click the Languages tab.
Check the box titled "Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages..." (this is the missing step).
Click Apply. You may be asked to supply the XP CD at this point.
Click the Details button.
In the resulting Text Services and Input Languages dialog click the Add button.
Select Hebrew (which now appears in the list) and click OK, OK.
That should do it; your wife should now be able to work with Hebrew language texts and software. - Neil J. Rubenking.
