Sony Adds Ads to PS3 Games

"Now with more advertising!" That's sort of the message we're hearing today, as Sony has announced a partnership for the PlayStation 3 with IGA Worldwide as its in-game ad partner.

Isn't this the sort of thing you'd want to sneak You might not remember, but many cable channels started off "ad-free" to draw users. The problem was that the money didn't exactly flow in, so hence came the ads? I was actually pleased to see ads show up on Bravo a dozen years ago.

But people are already playing games. Do we really need advertising too?

Apparently so, since EA also announced that it will work with IGA to provide in-game ads on EA's own PS3 titles, reports ClickZ. Of course, these ads won't likely be of the "we interrupt this gaming experience for a word from our sponsors" variety, but rather subtle: posters, signage, and other the similar things we're already used to seeing and ignoring. If I can ignore that real-world billboard telling me to "Buy more..." whatever, I guess I can ignore it in my games. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go purchase a tasty beverage, cooler clothes, and a car I can't afford.
