As someone whose name is frequently misspelled, this strikes me pretty close to home. Human error is one thing, but it's something else entirely when a computer mis-corrects it. (No, Word, I would not like to change my name to "Corinne Um Oozy" or "Corinne Sorry," but thanks for playing.)
Students at Middletown Area High School in Pennsylvania had a similar problem when their yearbooks came back from the printer. According to an AP report, automatic spell-check errors on four yearbook pages renamed students Max Zupanovic, Kathy Carbaugh, and Alessandra Ippolito (to name a few) as "Max Supernova," "Kathy Airbag," and "Alessandra Impolite," respectively.
I honestly don't know what they're complaining about. I'd take "Supernova" over "Oozy" any day; that's an awesome freaking name!
Yearbook printer Taylor Publishing told the AP that similar errors happen every year, and they will issue free stickers to correct the misspelled names.
What's your spell-check name? Run it through your word processor or Google and let us know in the comments.
